After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

What Coffee are you roasting this week

.....Today's lucky beans are Brazil Yellow Burbon - Pulped Naturals... KK
Definitely nothing wrong with that  :)
  • New Years Day Rotated a 1 KG batch of blended beans 300 Grams of Burundi 300 Grams of Guatamala Los Volcanos 300 Grams of Indian Plantation AA 100 Grams of Sumatra Wahana KK
  • My current batch is: 60 per cent PNG Okapa 20 per cent Peru Ceju de Salva 10 per cent Burundi 10 per cent Honduras And one 100 per cent delicious - pulled roast at first snips of second crack!
  • My current batch is: 50% Brazil Ipanema 30% Cuban 20% Ethiopian Yirg Bit fresh still but not so bad with the 22g basket in the big Lever.
  • That last roast was so delicious I roasted 2 lots of 1 kg Some of it to give away to a client I'm trying to impress 300 Grams of Burundi 300 Grams of Guatamala Los Volcanos 300 Grams of Indian Plantation AA 100 Grams of Sumatra Wahana KK
  • Yesterday I roasted a pre-blend of: 300g Mexico el Triunfo Arabigo 300g Nigaragua Matagalpa A 300g Ethiopia Sidamo Naturals Finished with 755g. Looks to be about a CS9. I'm going to give them about two weeks as most roasts from the JYR really start to offer their best by then.

  • Wow - that's am amazing blend KK. My weekend roast was simpler (and not as good I'm sure). 60% PNG Opaka 40% Ethiopia Harrar. Enjoy it :) Paul Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  • I love this scale.  TCF for the win!!!
  • roasting Kenya AAA bold for espresso ramped to first crack and then coasted to first snips of second smells great and good even colouration - can't wait to get a few days date on it ! p
  • Sounds great! Just finished a Columbia/PNG/Kenya blend for the week. Left it shy of 2C and am getting very sweet caramelly aromas.  Next up I might have a single origin week involving costas and guats me thinks .
  • Used my first batch of kenya AAA for cold brew - slow extracted one drop at a time over 12 hrs - delicious! Made just under three Lts from 500g of green beans or bout 350g of roasted beans - sold 70 per cent at markets on sunday and im drinking the rest myself to get me through my full time study of cert 4 in training and assessment! Second batch roasted for espresso only 3 days post roast and just damned delicious - mineral / flinty / earthy flavours with aromas of christmas pudding and pine needles - needless to say it tastes great on the palate! Next time Ill roast more (than 500g) coz Im burning through it quickly at the moment! P

Cold brew - nice :) Cold drippers were the first product my K Bean business sold. Good luck with your Cert IV T&A. I did that one a few years back. It's good to have. I have regular Linked In requests now asking me to do business and PM training. Cheers, Paul :)
  • i was selling my cold brew through a distributor in melbourne and had about 30 stockists but that's dropped off since I moved to QLD still got a  commercial setup however and I can produce 10lts per day or 20lt if im running the towers back to back! p
  • This afternoon I roasted a kilo of greens 1 kilo on the KKTO These greens were purchased from an acquaintance as a bulk lot of mainly African beans However this lot ( approx 3 kg ) that I have roasted today is not identified  So I will be waiting to taste them after a suitable degas time And if they taste like mana from heaven - then I can only enjoy them until they finish Such is life  KK

wow - that's an impressive line up - is that just for personal consumption? p
  • More than half for personal consumption. 4 hard core coffee drinkers in our household. Rest is gifted (or bartered) to friends and family.
  • Realised I had some Kenya AA beans leftover that I'd bought about two years ago, so thought I'd finish those off, roasted them up this morning. Was only 245g left, Behmor setting 1lb P2A, FC at 9:20, rolling at 9:45, end of FC 11:15, pulled at 12:45, moisture loss of 15.71%. Fair few beans looked a little mottled after the roast.. but will see how they turned up! 534b40edd8800db14e6c452243753b4e.jpg6860bdc8613199c52fca9801f9bca9c0.jpg
  • hey Simon I've got 5kg of similar green beans - Kenya AAA bold - I've been pushing them a bit harder in my roast profile on the behmor i tend to ramp to first crack then temperature drop at end of FC and coast for 2 mins before applying heat once again and pulling the roast at the first snips of second crack i don't seem to get enough colour on the beans for my liking otherwise and im loving them as SO espresso and in my cold brew coffee at the moment - sold a truck load of cold brew at the markets last weekend - so can't be doing too badly ! best pat
  • Ah awesome, thanks Pat! Yeah a stunning bean hey... I've only got the old school auto Behmor without manual controls so can't alter those parameters. I still really don't understand all the different manual controls anyway (as in the reason why to ramp up fast, coast a bit then drop heat/apply more heat etc etc), don't understand the reasoning behind all the approaches hence my hesitation in getting the manual control panel to install, but that's great it gets a good brew out of it for ya! Can't wait to try this one again, has been awhile...
  • yeah it's an awesome bean alright been through 1kg just in the last two weeks alone !
  • Haha nice! It's weird, I keep seeing it written around that beans like Kenyans can be taken much darker than others, but surely that would mute alot of the amazing acidity and fruity characteristics of the bean?
  • Another roast on this sunny Brisbane morning A 3 bean blend 400 Grams of Mistery Beans 300 Grams of Tanzania South AA 300 Grams of Sumatra Wahana KK
  • From a long time admirer of this forum and highly infrequent poster ... my efforts yesterday - 280 g each of Peru Ceja de Selva and Ethiopia Limmu on the Behmor. Both taken just to start of 2C. Roasted the Peru last week and while nice as a latte, thought it would be better with some Ethiopian added. Will mix the two and see how it goes.
