After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Have your say

edited January 1970 in Have your say
I am a keen follower of our forum and probably an objector to the old chat box segment only to some content. Now I feel without this segment the present  forum lacks the following of the individuals who added the humour and knowledge to make our forum unique. I must add that I feel we need as forum members to have more say in the daily content and some effort be made to reinvigorate COFFEE FORUM  to its former status.

  • You make an excellent point mate.  The forum is in a severe post-slump and the issue is that folks are busy.  I've been on the other two Aussie forums and they too are in severe decline in regards to new posts.  I've wondered if coffee forums aren't 'so 2010' like alt.coffee was 'so 1999'!  The members need to lead the way with content and drive.  There is no commercial need for the forum to survive, only a social and educational one!  Bring it on folks! Interestingly Aussie Sapphire forum is now doing a competition... and as we have seen these things aren't terribly well received... I wonder if they will do any better.  Theirs is is a commercial forum but run with the highest level of integrity and aims to provide a service.  That it is attached to a very successful family business seems merely coincidence when one considers the quality of information on offer.... much like that contributed here by MyCuppa and Cosmorex/Bean!Roasters.
  • I would love to see this place more lively. Unfortunately I do not have the knowledge/expertise and/or experience to add a whole lot apart from the occasional picture or newbie question .

But that's the exact purpose of the site!  Keep up the good work.  Think about it like this: if you post a question that is difficult one,  surely it is better to get it to an 'I don't know mate' reply or a 'that's interesting... I've never encountered it' reply, as opposed to nothing. Keep up the good foruming CB!

Spot on Brett. I'm new here and I'll ask many dumb questions even though I've got a bit of knowledge and experience under my belt as a home barista.
  • I am sure there will be questions abound in the coming weeks  ;D.
  • The old chat box was the cause of most of our problems!  It's gone, it's not coming back.  :pan I've had a break for a bit because I have other things to get on with (life, kids, a business) an spent quite a few months getting the forum back to where it needs to be functionality wise and on a decent server beforehand.  Really as BH said it comes down to content, and the members need to involve themselves with the site, ask questions, answer other people question as you get more sure of yourself.  There is an off topic area if it's not about coffee. If the site isn't used, it will disappear or become obsolete unless people use it and take the time to engage with other like minded individuals.
  • Hi guys. Ive only been on this forum for a couple days and it seems pretty active. I'll continue to be active and contribute what I can and post my experiences with my usage, technique, coffee I like etc.
  • I get on when I can its more about quality than quantity!

Phew... I held my breath before reading on!
  • Breathe easy Brett  ^-^.
  • Cheers. Brett, but I have read most of Sue's posts here and as my partner has the same name and both into coffee, I figured my comment would be  :thumb: graciously received as a compliment.  ;D And GeekKopi is correct in his opinion that the forum seems to be experiencing a re surge in activity. Thanks to him, her, you and a few others. :coffee2:
  • I can assure you the compliment was well received and no offence was taken at all  :). Let's hope the activity keeps up  :coffee2:.

  • It sort of makes sense that a forum will eventually decline... New people like me come along and read all the excellent information and so we're left without questions to ask!!

Hi mate and welcome!  That is an astute observation.  The good news is, there will always be new players who come along and invariably teach the old-dogs new tricks.  I for one am ready and willing to keep learning! Welcome!
