Espresso Parts HQ Baskets

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
Hi,

I'm just about to order a couple of basket from EP to try.  Anyone want to grab some and save a bit on postage?

ESPRESSO PARTS HQ 14G RIDGELESS STYLE DOUBLE PORTAFILTER BASKET $6.95 on sale http://www.espressoparts.com/EPMZ_107A

ESPRESSO PARTS HQ 21G RIDGELESS BASKET $9.63 on sale
http://www.espressoparts.com/EPW10813?&search_id=2021491

I'll email the order and have it shipped USPS, so it will take a couple of weeks.

Cheers.

  • I'll take one of each thanks L.
  • Any other basket cases out there?  If not I'll place an order tomorrow.
  • I've got a heap of these sent to me for review. In the end, I agreed with EspressoParts not to publish my thoughts on them. For the record, I'm using VST's in different sizes currently. If people are taking beans from me, I'm happy to drop the corresponding basket into the order. I believe I have 5 different baskets including a 107A and a 10813. Call it an apology for Hunter Express being so bloody annoying - they drove right by again today. I'm sure that'll count as 'attempted pickup'. Argh! Anyhow, basket cost = free, postage = free,
  • I use these baskets in my BFC Synchro at work and I have nothing but praise for them - in my side by side comparison tests with 'normal' 21g espresso baskets I found that the EP HQ baskets produced a darker, richer, and more complex crema than would otherwise be the case, and consistently so I also find the mouthfeel to be richer and creamier and substantially more pronounced on the mid palate - I sell a lot of espresso and double espresso coffees at my cafe and I'd say that these and indeed all my coffees have benefited from the EP HQ baskets The only downside I would note is that, as the perforations are substantially smaller than 'standard' oversized baskets, they tend to clog with oils more readily and specifically if you accidentally updose in excess of the basket's capability, or if the grind is just way too fine - in any case a quick flush of the group head, and a rinse of the baskets seems to fix the problem straight away, as well as regularly rinsing your baskets say once per hour during a busy service A small price to pay I would say for what I would describe as a significantly improved product P

I will be pleased to get a 21 gr basket / 58 mm from Coffee Horse But a loose 58 mm as the Pullman tamper is a little tight on the few 21 gr baskets I have at home and I can't utilize them KK
  • Might be able to help out there KK. My tamper has adequate clearance in order to put your baskets back into service

If mine fit your tamper you can have one KK
  • My pullman tamper (which was sized to fit some new VST baskets) fits the EP baskets just fine (with maybe a touch of wiggle room. If you don't want to wait for postage from the US, there's a shop in Melbourne that sells them.  I think I paid $14 each.

    Awwww, you sweetheart
  • Baskets ordered today.
  • What days are good for you this week? I'm hoping to find some free time this week to pop up the coast and say hi.
  • Hi Lace I also like my EP that I purchased locally but I have my synesso one in atm.  Might be time to pull the EP out and have another crack with it.  There is considerable difference between EP and synesso (both 21g baskets) in regards to flow rate and dosing level that is for sure. Might be time to play again, thanks for the inspiration Jonty

I've ordered them and they are on their way :)  What difference exactly?  Can you tell me more? I couldn't really get any concrete info as to why some don't like these baskets (CH didn't want to post his comments, and didn't reply to my PM), but I'm sure there are equal amount of people saying they don't like VST, so for the price I'll give them ago.  Paolo has been more than happy with his EP over the stock Quick Mill baskets!  I did like my synesso that I had with my pullman which I sold when I bought the lusso.  It was a great basket, I was more sad to see that go than the pullman!
  • Lace, From memory, the EP require a tighter grind than the synesso basket I have.  Now does that give one an advantage in the cup? My buds aren't the good to tell you - I'll be honest. Today I have soaked my portafilters and baskets - switching in the EP for brekky tomorrow on the EP basket!  For the record I paid $13 for mine and thought it was a bargin for a trial run. I believe Bombora have brought them into the country for distribution. Cheers Jonty
  • They might be an improvement on the stock baskets.  I doubt I will taste the difference, I was hoping for less channelling more than anything, especially being ridgeless. Bombora do stock them BUT only supply businesses with an ABN.  I know a place in Melbourne had them for $13, but no stock and probably not free post to me in QLD. FYI I paid $11.67 each for mine (inc postage) direct from EP.  I've always found EP easy to deal with, and they have a fantastic range of parts that Aussie distributors do not stock (Boilers for Wega Mininova's for instance)

K-man if you come up call in here for a coffee and horse laugh my 1/3 of a house.
  • G'day Lace I guessed this morning with the Guate Lot 28 COE in the grinder for the EP basket.  I dialed in 3/4 of a turn more and still I got away with a 20sec shot - not as tight as I would like.  Cup will leave that till I bag the 30sec god shot tomorrow morning ;) Yeah I got free delivery with mine as I was picking up my Alex at the time ;) Looking forward to the discussion as members give these a run. Jonty
  • I get a much more dense and rich crema in the cup from my EP baskets which holds its body for longer and binds better with the milk than would otherwise be the case That combined with a sweet and juicy mouthfeel is a winner, I reckon!

  • Items purchased, and more discussion re the pros and cons of the baskets moved to a new thread. http://www.bestcafes.com.au/forum/accessories/espresso-parts-ep-hq-baskets/msg38420/?topicseen#msg38420
