After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

    In terms of longevity - as I posed the same question at Bunnings and should last 5 + years The mower comes with a 2 year warranty KK

    But then again, how much is it to service a petrol mower.  Not that cheap, around the $100 mark last time I took mine in.  Hopefully these electric ones wouldn't need too much TLC, but might need new blades at some point.

    Currently a new blade as its one long type costs under $30 A new battery is around $200 However one main reason I went with the Ryobi is that several tools in the garden range use the same battery So if I get a trimmer and a hedge cutter with battery it increases its overall usability I feel that the mower will pay for itself in 3 to 5 years dependent on use ? Just in petrol fuel savings That includes the cost to charge the battery KK

    Consumer / user update As noted in the above post #29 the mower does not lack power to cut long grass It's easy to use It's light in relation to the petrol / metal mowers Today is a cloudy day with a hint of showers  and I thought to charge the battery in readiness for a mow later in the day or tomorrow Well the batter won't come out, It simply won't budge Try as I might to remove it, the battery is stuck in the mower I called the Ryobi Importers / distributors in Australia Techtronic Industries in Doncaster VIC and spoke to support It turns out that the battery has a release button - it's a grey 5mm x 30mm rectangle that should work like a spring loaded release This release button on my battery unit does not function as its stuck in the lock position I was directed to return the whole mower for replacement What a bugger - but hey thems the breaks Anyway I was going in to Bunnings to purchase a Ryobi  line trimmer that uses the same battery unit so I can have a spare for longer running time with a quick battery change should it be required for extended mowing KK

    Brilliant mate.  Of interest to me is how long those expensive batteries last.
      Depending on the quality of the cells Ryobi used,  they should be able to survive at least 1000 charge cycles before their capacity reduces to 80% of their claimed 2.6Ahrs. so charging once per week on average, the battery will probably outlive you ! They last better if you dont run them completely flat before recharging

    To tell you the truth, I think that the 4 stroke would have struggled in the long grass test that I put the Ryobi through KK

    My corded electric mower is going great guns and has more than halved my mowing time compared to the little beastie that I used to own - not the least of all being coz I don't need to empty the catcher every sixty seconds As for minding the cord - I don't turn the mower around when I'm using it - I run it in a straight line then reverse back for the next section - always keeping the cord over my right shoulder ! P

    As promised - some photos of wet grass very long being mowed Cut like butter on a higher level with muncher plug in place so it was working double time A short review - Ryobi 36 Volt Cordless This mower has surprised me on its shear cutting power even on long grass with mulcher plug fitted In fact I would also say my 4 stroke mower would probably struggle or stall in such conditions Some photos - Attachment not found.Attachment not found.

    Depends if the mower is used with catcher or as mulcher Also depends on the height of the grass 25 min to 40 min is the average That equates on my small lawn area to one ( 1 ) mow with long grass and mulcher plug Or two (2) mows on short grass and catcher KK
