OMGosh... Mazzer and La Marzocca have teamed up dumb-down a Mazzer Mini Electronica, put a button on the front and forget that what the home really needs is a grinder that retains nothing.  I wonder if that's addressed...

Morning Brett, Interesting, however the collaborative team behind the design don't look like they were overly stressed, hardly an innovative addition to the range of grinders on offer at the moment. The more things change the more they remain the same.

I completely agree!  What happened to real innovating??  The only profoundly captivating thing in this 61mm flat burr offering may be the brand name and in close second, the price.  Given most home enthusiasts are using higher-spec'd modified commercial grinders... Why? Of course I'll eat all these reservations if it sells for $349AU and has a grind particle retention of zero Happy New Year mate!

Well I think if they are going create the ultimate grinder, they need to start with a blank piece of paper. Zero retention consistent grind without the hopper being full Easy to change beans No mess The Breville Smart grinder is the closest I've ever had to use.  Easy to use, clean, and minimal retention of grinds.  The Vario was so messy!!!!  The only problem with the Breville is that it's designed to be binned when things go wrong, and there is only one burr type available.  I love the idea of a big commercial to improve the cup, but I just can't put my hand in my pocket to pay 2k for 2 coffees a day and having half the kitchen taken up with it's size.

I'm certainly on board with zero grind retention, well minimal anyway. My Mazzer Mini does all I require for home use, with a redesigned doser would tick all of my boxes, not holding my breath though. This will probably ruffle a few feathers but I would not buy a Breville product on principal.

I had a Breville Cyclonic Wizz for 20+ years and all that broke was the plastic bowl.  I replaced it with the equivalent modern thing and it's not as good.  There, I said it.... I used Cyconic Wizz's for prep when I was a part-time cook (we had 2) and they were in action when I arrived and hadn't missed a beat when I left 5 years of daily use later.  My current model I hand-wash and treat with kid-gloves :/ Any of their coffee gear I've used has been great in principal, poor in practice.  Bear in mind though, they don't pitch their products at fussy folk like us!!

I had the same attitude about Breville's stuff, but I've been impressed by it.  It suits my Oscar well, and I know it's a low end grinder, but it does the job.  I has some great features, clean to use, and very little retention if any.

My attitude toward Breville comes from the era when Breville appliances were at the very bottom of the food chain, if it was Breville it was guaranteed to fail shortly after purchase, I realise it may well be unfounded nowadays however once bitten twice shy.
