After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Bran New at this - need help desperately.

I have completed a 1 day "barista" course at local TAFE and am keen to get into it. I have just obtained a (seeminly very old) Rancilio 2 group machine. I believe it to be a Z9 semi auto, solenoid machine but cannot get manuals/info about it. I need to know how to strip/clean/reassemble it and then what the switches etc do.

I'd be happy to send anyone a pic of the front panel, guts if they thing they could be of assistance.

Cheers
and thanks in advance
John

  • Being a Z9 model it should have 2 (assuming 2 group) square rocker switches and 2 dial timers the rocker switches simply operate the the groups where the dials are timers (sort of primitive automatic) How specifically do you wish to disassemble the machine (and why?) Good luck with the machine and give me some more details so I can try to help.

Assume is correct, 2 group and yes, the switches are there as are 2 red lights (connected to the switch) and the dials. So the switch will start/stop the extraction? Or does the dial have to be activated? No markers on the dials, so no idea how far to turn (if at all). I'm happy to do manual shots but if the dials are OK then why not? :P

The machine seems to have been used/abused. One of the solenoids is new, the other looks original. One group has been used and used, the other looks clean(ish). I want to be sure there are no nasties hiding in the group head (and maybe replave the group gasket - if that is necessary?).

Thanks, I appreciate your info so far and look forward to next installment. I tracked down a manual for Z11 (at $5 Canadian) - can't be too much of a loss even if it is not help at all :exclamation Cheers John
  • My advice is to just use the rocker switches don't worry about the timers they weren't much good even when new. As for cleaning the group, use a flat stumpy screwdriver to remove the shower and either clean or replace it then you'll need a sharp "poker" to remove the cup washer (I use a sharpened screwdriver) then replace it you may need a couple of packers for each group. Good Luck
  • Thanks, Will see what eventuates. More to follow ... John
