After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

No Probs with ECM Giotto

edited January 1970 in Espresso Machines
Well, reading through the forums over the past month or so and the talk of machines made me think it was time to upgrade.... so I have now lashed out and am the proud owner of a Giotto. I have to say it makes glorious coffee - I picked it up on Thursday night, and this morning was the first chance I had to play, I've now pulled three shots on it and each one was great, the last one better than I've ever pulled on the old gaggia.  And talk about frothing milk, it goes off like a Zirtec.  I'm sure I have a long way to go to fully master the beast, but I expect that will be a fun part of the journey too!

Another big rap has to go to John from the forum, he patiently spent a couple of hours pre-sale with me talking me through the machine and espresso making in general, and taught me plenty of things that I could take back and use on any machine.  When I collected the machine, it was more of the same, to make sure that my purchase was going to be useful straight out of the box and enjoyable to boot.

  • Poundy Thanks for the kind comments. It's all part of the service. I also enjoyed our discussions. JD :D
  • I have been looking to purchase a Giotto for some time, however I found it difficult to 'bite the bullet' and buy one. It was a fairly big decision for me, however talking to Poundy started me thinking about the merits of having a great espresso machine, rather than an ordinary one. So today I met with John D to look at the Giotto and determine whether I should get one. After spending 3 hours with him I must say that the final decision was a lot easier than I thought it would be. There is no doubt that the Giotto is a great machine, however it is made a whole lot better, if you have someone who you can ask questions of and get tips and advise from. Thank you John for the time spent demonstrating the Giotto amd Mazzer to my wife and I, and I am really looking forward to learning everything these is to know about the machine, and concentrate on making excellent espresso. PS Poundy, Thanks for helping me get off my ar$3 and make a decision. Mdub
  • the way it's going, we'll need to start a Giotto Owners club!!!
  • Hey Mdub, You won't regret getting the giotto and the mazzer, i have the same combination and can't be happier. I use to own a Saeco machine prior to this combo and the difference is amazing. Good luck with the purchase mate and hope you enjoy the equipment as much as i am
  • Mdub It was great to meet you and Lisa. I am sure you will enjoy the Giotto/Mazzer combo. Any probs you know where to find me. JD
  • Just thought I'd revive an old thread.. Poundy, how is the ECM unit some three months on???  Have you made any adjustments to the way you extract your brew?  Have you bought yourself a naked portafilter yet? Cheers, Paulie ::)
  • Uh, Paulie, the original thread was in October 2004  :)
