After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

what to do when there a different tastes at home ?

edited January 1970 in Espresso Machines
ok, my wife prefers a milder blend for her milk based coffee, but i prefer a darker roast for espresso. thats no problem for roasting, i roast 2 differnt batches at different times.

i do the blend, but if i want to try a different blend or have an espresso blend, i have to empty the grinder of the old one and put the new beans in. what makes it harder is the rocky has to be turned upside down to empty which is a pain in the butt and it's bloody heavy !

whats the solution ? anyone have the same problem and what do you do ?

  • G'day Remus, I think that most people (home users) get around this by only adding enough beans to the hopper for the drink that they're making at that time. I do this and I put a tamper on top of the beans while I'm grinding, which stops the 'popcorning' effect.
  • ditto, lovey. That's what I do with the mazzer mini too. Although mazzers (and all commercial grinders) have a little slide in thingy at the bottom of the hopper, so if the hopper is full and you want to change beans, you close the trap door, lift out the hopper and then open the trap door again when the hopper is going into your coffee container.
  • I don't think I'll ever have that kind of trouble my wife only likes the smell of coffee, so one suggestion is you trade your current model in for something with lower K's and a dislike of coffee. :D Like some one else mentioned there must be a better way to empty your hopper those magic pieces of paper called instructions may solve your problem , but reading instructions usually takes the fun out of most things and is only reccommended as a last resort.
  • An interesting topic Remus.  I have a similar problem with a friend that is able to get different "samples" of beans and often brings them over for us to try.  Like you, I must tip my Maestro upside down to empty the hopper so I can throw in a handful of the sample beans. .......and Governments think they have big issues to tackle  :)
  • Even better.... get another grinder..  ;D ;D ;D
  • ....or get another Mate  ;D
