After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Sunbeam 6900 - Intermittent prob with Steam

edited January 1970 in Espresso Machines
I've had this beast for about 4 weeks and an intermittent problem has developed in the last week.
A standard feature of the EM6900 is when not used for a period of time it goes into "stand-by" mode.  A simple touch of a button, and all is good for resuming the operations of the machine.

However, if I completely "power-off" the Machine, then there is no guarantee that the Steam Wand will be operable when I turn it back on.  The espresso, and hot water functions are still working (separate pump), but the Pump supplying the Steam function remains silent.  So far, I've found that turning it back off and on again after 20mins - 40mins....it works ok, but obviously this is not ideal. :-/

This morning I rang the Sunbeam Helpline and explained the situation.  Here is where I was taken by surprise.  After listening to my description, they immediately advised that they will arrange for a courier to pick up the machine and take to their Service Centre.  My only problem with that is that I then had to tell them I am going Interstate for a week.  Sunbeam then offered to delay the courier until my return.  Can't complain about their service. :)

I'll let you all know what eventuates once I get back and they take the beast away for testing.

  • Sunbeam picked up the machine on Thursday 6th October via courier and it was returned to me yesterday via courier. Certainly can't complain about their service  :) I had been using "old smokey" my $129 machine during the time my new one was with Sunbeam.  Now I have to get used to frothing with the new beast all over again. I guess now I just have to wait and see if the intermittent fault has been fixed.
  • Looks like the problem hasn't been fixed....I've been using it for less than a week since it came back from "repairs".  :( Oh well....another call to Sunbeam tomorrow so they can come and pick it up again. NOT HAPPY JAN !!!  >:(
  • Boy am I glad I didn't go through with the temptation to go cheaper and get the EM6900.. Good luck with the steam problem HG.. let us know the outcome. PAULIE
  • Rang Sunbeam on Monday morning...they organised courier for Monday afternoon. Now I'm just waiting...waiting...waiting...
  • As per previous post, Sunbeam picked up the machine on Monday.  I got a call from them today advising that the repairs had been completed and they would courier it back out this afternoon (apparently, they replaced the thermostat and steam pipe). Quick turnaround  :) The way I figure it, I've let them have 2 goes at this....if the problem occurs again, then 3 strikes and they're out ! So, fingers crossed, I'll be taking it for a thorough test drive over the coming days/weeks.
  • Beautiful cappucinos last night....same again this morning. Will continue to keep my fingers crossed.
  • Well it's been just over a week now....still working strong....I hope it continues.
