After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

Spot welding (in sydney)

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
Hi gents,

I've been borrowing Mr Hazchem's Gene Cafe and after a new heater box + gear, the additional heat output of the second 'newly improved' roast was enough to make the spot welds on the output 'gate' weaken enough that when flowing the beans out, the grille flew out also.

Does anyone have a spot welder they'd be happy to teach me to use for 2 minutes ;) I'm happy to pay in coffee &/or beer.

If not, does anyone know if Avacuppa are the only retailer of spares? They have a 'glass' roasting chamber for $110, but I'm not sure if this is actually 'acrylic' (i.e. not glass) or whether there's a retailer selling the part at a reasonable cost - closer to the US$69 of freshbeansinc. Especially if any site sponsor has this part - I looked but couldn't find one.

I really don't mind buying Mr. Chem a new roasting chamber if necessary, but $$ is $$, and I'd like to give him this one back as a spare, at worst.

  • Don't have a spot welder but my son does have a welder. I'm sure he could put a spot here or there for you. I'd have to ask him tonight and I'm going away for a week tomorrow morning.
  • Thanks TG that'd be much appreciated - there's no hurry as I'm not getting out much! :) Would be great to catch up with you over a coffee sometime, so we can arrange something when you're back from your travels if you like?
