I can see the potential for a high volume cafe Looks like a very solid canter-lever mechanism Probably overkill for home use (says the man with a big conical grinder  :angel:)

What is this overkill you speak of surely there is no such thing  The Tamper version of the fresh in a chain store situation would be an easy way to get "decent" consistency with less well trained staff. Much as a K10 may be a little over the top (yes I own a K10 too  ::) ) for home use the lever Tamper for some people with physical issues would make it easier to keep them away from the evil pod or fully autos. My Dad is in the position of wanting a machine for home and having me suggest to him to buy an Auto as he doesn't have the strength in his hands to Tamp.

What about asking AM to make a version of http://www.1st-line.com/machines/home_mod/macap/CPS.htm#cps or http://www.1st-line.com/machines/home_mod/mazzer/mazzer-x-bar.htm ? The dynamics behind them are nice and simple, and if a little more ugly it wouldn't need to cost the earth! (or knock one up yourself). best, CH

I've seen one of these not being used in a cafe near Opera Queensland at South Bank.  They are supplied by Amarti.  The staff member who served me used a cheap tamper and the big unit sat idle. The coffee was quite foul but I think that the ramping was the least of their issues.  The cafe does a reasonable trade it seems so they may have improved or more likely they are nestled in amongst very ordinary competition!

Domestically it becomes a bit of a problem for bench real estate unless your a real coffee junkie for the separate Tamper mech. Hint Mr Compak get one fitted to a K3T for the domestic market Having it as a standard option on the K10 you can always use or not use as you like. While even the extra bench space of the separate one would be a pain. If there is 2 of you working flat out on a machine then less gear hanging around on the bench is important.

a) Just another case of someone going to the trouble of inventing something to try and get around a problem, when the real solution is to train the humans better in the first place.  Still open to misuse in untrained hands therefore...why bother? b) It wont be any good if it doesnt SELF CENTRE while it tamps. I have no idea if it does or doesnt, but have seen other tamping jigs with the same issue so the idea behind the jig still may not address all the problems it is designed to address. If it does actually self centre and result in a straight across tamp, apologies for my scepticism. c) I still reckon its a beer bottle capping jig placed onto the grinder so you can grind coffee and cap your beer bottles at the same time.....very efficient really  :D :D Rgdz, A
