After the old forum software breaking in a way that we were unable to fix, we've migrated the site to a new platform.

Some elements aren't working as we'd hoped - some avatars didn't survive the transition, and we're still having issues with attachments that weren't added as inline images, but we're hoping to have that all sorted out soon.

On diet - but at least coffee is allowed

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
Yep I've gone on diet, 2 meals replaced by nasty satchets of powder.  At least I'm allowed unlimited coffee and tea (and other diet drinks) as long as I don't use milk or sugar.  No problemo - I drink mine black anyway ;)

Only 'problem' is one of the flavours of satchets I have is 'Cafe latte' - I'm not sure what it tastes like !  The colour looks like coffee with milk but it just tastes sweet but nothing else.  And if I don't rinse off the shaker immediately after use, the stuff soon turns dark green.  Am I drinking copper  ???  Surely even copper doesn't oxidise within seconds.

Definitely no notes notes, notes and notes there  >:(

Good luck there GB! My wife and I tried the heart patient diet from the Mater Hospital once. Lots of Veges, no breads, pastas, little fruit and NO tea or coffee. I lasted 17.5 hours! I now exercise more... Yours sounds at least achievable for a coffee-lover and you never know, you may find some hidden notes notes notes!
  • I'm sure they don't expect people like "us" to take the "unlimited coffee" to the extreme. The oil content isn't exactly low in espresso. I hate diets - thankfully, I'm still not at a stage where food puts weight on me. Hoping that never hits me.
  • I have never had a weight problem However I have a job that is physical in nature & lots of walking KK

I've been trying to reply for 5 mins (ok maybe I type too slow) and everytime I try to post it warns me a new reply has been posted  ;D  You guys are too fast lol. Thanks Brett :)  It's going well so far, not hungry or anything and lost 5kg already.  It's now obvious that I can't cut food back anymore but just need to heap up the exercise (and too bad typing in front of the PC doesn't count !).  I'm on a 'Heart Health' one recommended by my GP and doing it via my health fund.  The daily shot or 4 is a great treat and it's something I look forward to daily. I've been on naturopathic cleansing diets before too - no coffee meant it didn't last hahaha.  I'm a chocoholic and dairy fiend but amazingly I haven't missed them since I started this. Richard M and KK - you guys are already 1 up on me being male !  I can stack on weight just by being alive !  My work has always been bound to a desk, but at least the newest job (which is what's kept me away from here) involves some physical moving around.  Oh yes and people at work lurve their instant coffee  :-[ Notes notes notes and notes notes....

By the time my brother was my age (he's 6 years older) he had started to pack on weight. My last job was a desk job, and I felt I was getting a bit on the heavier side. My current job isn't exactly physical, but it's not sitting down, which, I think, makes a massive difference. Desk jobs are about as healthy as eating maccas every day for lunch (and a lot of people chained to their desks do that too!).

My diet was always quite good - but wrong portions and desk jobs made it hell.  I'm working in a medical imaging clinic and seeing all those films and reports that come out, I'd never lose sight of my health again.  Never seen any that mentions anything to do with 'too much coffee' yet :)
  • Ahhh green bean that sounds like Tony Ferguson??? If so seriously stick with it, I lost 30kgs on it in 6 months and then kept it off for another year. It does work you just have to have the mind set going in that it will work, otherwise you'll won't stick to it. My OH being an engineer approached it scientifically of course and worked it all out and if you stick exactly to it you can't not lose weight (well unless there is a medical reason). A 'normal' person needs 7000 kjs a day A TF person gets 3000 kjs a day Where is the body going to get the extra energy it needs to work, from what is already there of course and you will shrink before you know it  ;D
  • I think while on 2 replacements it's about 3000 kjs, but now it's phasing out and i'm getting back to real food. Now if I can tether my laptop to the treadmill... I have a bit of medical stuff going against me (nothing too serious but it's a blocker to weight loss) but if I stick to this and lose the weight, then I can possibly fix the other problems too.  That's enough incentive to stick to it :) In engineering terms, I'm an engine with badly-tuned timing and doesn't burn fuel up completely, leaving behind all this soot that's recycled back into the system and builds it up....
  • Weight loss is all about using more than you take in I reckon but if your time poor you need to do what you need to do. Beer, Bread, Cheese, milk coffees & Pasta diet for me, add a goodly dose of bike riding to lose another 8kg since December (dropped over 25kg). Hate to say it but I would rather exercise than go without the good tasting things in life  :) Never going to be skinny but to remind myself of the gains I pick up a 25kg bag of spuds for motivation to keep it off. Feeling a little guilty this morning after a midnight snack last night of Pork Belly as it came out of the oven. Hard ride for 10km this morning in the wind. Beer Pork Belly and rice for dinner tonight better make it 20km tomorrow morning  ::)
  • Whoa pork belly at midnight !  I've asked Wotb never to make crackling when doing an pork belly roast again coz I used to be able to finish all the crunchies in one sitting.  baaaaaaaad.... Not sure about bike riding in my neighbourhood - might get flattend by 5 B-doubles before I make it out the street.  I do walk home from work but it isn't too long a walk. I appreciate you all sharing inspirational stories - I'm going to keep my campaign alive :)  Need to stay alive as long as possible to drink coffee....
  • Midnight pork belly is bad...but every time I make jerky, I dry in the oven overnight, and generally have a few guilty midnight snackings :D The concentration of fats/sugars/kilojoules in some foods is astounding (large bag of burger rings - 4000kJ)!
  • It was only a couple of wafer thin slices of pork belly at midnight  ;)
