Hey guys! Recently had a strange experience I thought I'd bring to everyone's attention. Trying some new green beans, some Colombian, Cuba, and Uganda.

I put through the order, paying through Paypal, and got an email saying they had to review the transaction. Few days later it was rejected and refunded to me without explanation! Very very strange, as PayPal had never done this before...

So I tried again. Same thing, review, and then rejected. They then sent me a message, and it basically said that:

"U.S. regulations currently prohibit the purchase or sale of various goods and services originating from or being shipped to Cuba."

I was so puzzled haha... and then it occurred to me that PayPal is a U.S. based payment system. Then I looked it up and apparently there's some embargo between the U.S. and Cuba and their products. Had no idea about that, nor do I even know what's going on between the two! Perhaps some rocky relationship of sorts...

And they also asked me to kindly not send this payment again, and will close my account if I violate the terms again.

So if you ever order Cuban green beans from anywhere (even if the beans are currently in Australia and aren't being sent from Cuba!), you may have PayPal troubles! Using other payment methods are fine.

Very bizarre!

Hopefully, with enough interest, we can persuade a sponsor to purchase the bean. Alternatively we might be able to preorder, or do a group buy. Open to suggestions.

To start of the list:

Yemen Matari - Bani Matar

Currently available from:
http://www.hab.com.au/#/Product/info/CM-YE-002-01

Panama SHB - Maunier Estate Boquete Bourbon Natural
http://www.hab.com.au/#/Product/info/CM-PA-009-01

If anyone is else is interested, please register your interest or comments (if you have tried these coffees from a previous season).
I am interested in 3-5 kg of the Yemen (no doubt exxy), and the same goes for the Panama.

With the blessing of so many great selection, not only from various suppliers, but also from the same supplier, how do you choose the green bean you want to buy (and keeping them under control)?

I will be quite surprised that I'm the only one facing this trouble. Unless you're the gotta catch 'em all shopper.

Normally, I go through the tasting notes/description of all the beans, then shortlist which may suit my taste best. I often have two troubles i) my shopping cart easily exceeds my budget and I can't possibly finish them under reasonable time frame. ii) the descriptions are hard to compare because there's no single standard description system. On top of that, some description is all about the farm history and nothing about the beans flavor/roast. As much as I like the sentiments, I'm currently buying the beans for drinking, not the farm... ^-^

Another shortlisting criteria that I use is I first decide whether I want the greens for filter or espresso. For filter, it is easier by going for Ethiopians/Kenya/fruity origin. But to find the right bean for espresso, especially one that can stand up against milk, is very difficult. I had a perfect crop(Mountain Top Estate) from about 2 years ago that cuts through milk nicely and leave a complex lasting aftertaste. But sadly that isn't available anymore and I have a hard time finding beans like that. Blending may be the workaround, but I can't seem to put together a blend that cuts through milk. It doesn't make sense either how blending a few weak tasting(in milk) beans can produce a result that shines in milk. For me blending only works for espresso by increasing the complexity, not in milk.

Would love to hear how do you go about it. ;D

G'day fellas,

So, I got into roasting recently and have gone through the beans that came with the roaster. I'm on the hunt for a few varieties of beans that:

1. Easy to roast
2. Good with milk
3. Can be blended (when I'm feeling adventurous later down the track)
4. Doesn't cost the earth

I'll probably get it from Bean Green but I'm open to suggestions.

Not sure if this is any use to anybody, did up a bean log for myself in excel.

[attachurl=1]

(hope this upload works)

Can record up to 20 different beans up to 25kg. (have a 100kg log if you need that much)

Just generate the info in to the sheets - Bean 1, Bean 2 etc. etc. Name will show up in the front index sheet for ease of locating a bean type by sheet no. Couple of graphs for quick refrence and because I could ;D.

Left a couple of fake entries as a demo, just click in the fields on the bean sheet and hit backspace to clear the entries.

If you can use it good, if you can offer improvments great.

Hi All

I've been over the last number of months working down my array of beans as it was like 28 coffees from 16 countries.... Which is okay for us to enjoy but I have been doing a number of baggies for work and a few others - around 2-3 bags per week (which is about all I want to roast in the behmor!). Any my question is a stash of beans that should work work for blending and also as a SO. My thoughts at this stage is:

1. Ethiopian Yirgacheffe
2. Sumatran Kuda Mas or Blue Batak
3. Columbian Bachue Supremo
4. I've got 5kg of each - Santa Clara & Pedra Redona.......
He has managed to get a few bags and expects it to arrive by the end of the week so we should have some available to order shortly after.
It sounds like a great bean and I am excited to get my hands on some!

I cannot say enough good things about BeanGreen.

I realised last night that amongst all the craziness of this week, not to mention my little boy being very ill, that I was about to be without coffee over Christmas.

At 9pm last night I emailed Brendan to enquire about shipping times - he assured me I'd have it before Christmas.

My pack arrived at 2pm today.

Incredible service - and it came with a little Christmas surprise which is always welcomed!

Thanks again BeanGreen!!
