Against my better judgement I grabbed a couple of small bags at duty free on the way home from Daresalaam (Tanzania), a few days ago. It was marked as Kibo AA, from Moshi near the border with Kenya, and actually had a roasted date on the back. It had been roasted dark, but no signs of oil. I had thoughts of stale, crap beans but after just trying an espresso it was great. Coming out of the grinder was a heavy beef or meaty aroma... Flavour was nutty with a long sweet aftertaste. Low acid, creamy mouthfeel with plenty of body. Kind of like jelly sitting in the cup.
