Marine Tanks - too much hassle?

edited January 1970 in Off-topic
I've come across a bit of a deal on a Boyu/Orca TL550, a 130 litre all-in-one tank with filter, lights and skimmer.

While I've been looking for a reasonably-priced used all-in-one for tropicals, this one has caught my eye and the temptation to look at a marine tank is stronger than I care to admit.

In the past it always seemed like a heck of a hassle. Even now, the marine guys consider a tank of this size a 'nano'!

Anyone feel like talking me out of it?

  • I kept marine fish about 25 years ago It was harder to set up in those days with live sea water By the way I got my shell grit and sea water from caloundra Although its a fulfilling thrill at first with the reward of creation,  it however can be saddening at times when loosing prized fish with a hefty price tag It was also never ending work to keep it clean and healthy I still keep fish but I now have a freshwater tank with cold water fishes KK
  • I had one for a few years, could collect my own coral, fish, anenomes etc here so it was a pretty amazing setup. Got sick of the maintenance after a while its a LOT of work.
  • Thanks guys, I think I'll stick to the tropical freshwater.

Yep, Wife wanted one many years ago and was prepared to drop big dollars on one but the ongoing maintenance was the turn-off!
  • Stick with a goldfish in a bowl mate.  You got enough on your plate with kiddies and a businesses. :)
