soy milk

Hi Everyone

Just wondering which brand of soy milk you and your customers prefer drinking. There is such a great difference in the taste from the different suppliers.

  • Hi Fi, I like Vitasoy as I like the taste and I find that it textures a lot better than Soygood (Sogood?)by Sanatarium. Its a lot darker in colour than the Soygood, almost brown, but I think thats a characteristic of the soy bean and hence hasn't been bleached or artificially whitened. Its also a lot thicker compared to the Soygood which is very watery, that way it has a tendancy to burn whilst texturing and why you get those little bubbles, which has not been a problem with the Vitasoy product. Hope this helps Mimmo
  • Thanks Mimmo. i will give it a try :)
  • As far as I'm aware, Vitasoy is owned by coke, and its now full of suger.  I use pure harvest organic, as the price is right and it tastes good too.   But the best of the lot is undoubtedly Bonsoy, which I also serve, and charge for accordingly Here's a quizz for you:  Which Australian owned organic soy company is just about to release a soy product specificially formulated for making coffee? ACG
  • Firstly soy should be illegal. Secondly i've used both sogood and vitasoy, both rancid in every aspect but vitasoy textures quite well for soy milk. Agree with the dark colour, its like mega brown much like the euphemism im going to refrain from using. The customers seem to love it (who knows whats going on there) so yeh i reckon vitasoy until well find out what the answer to this weeks pop quiz is :)
  • I'd like to tell you, really, I would, but I think I'll wait until the product is released, to avoid someone suing my &&#(@(! ACG

well now, that would be a shame for all the people allergic to/intollerant of cows milk wouldn't it? not everybody ordering soy is an idiot conned by fad diets into wanting the "low fat alternative".  some of us have no choice as to what milk we drink.
  • yeh my ex had coeliacs, its a curse! i've started using bonsoy and it textures so good! (pun intended) it textures better than skim, not sure about the taste though. every1 seems happy with it

Rumour has it that Pure Harvest is about to release a soy milk on to the market especially designed for mixing with coffee. Am yet to try it though, so will reserve judgement until I can tell you more. Also, as someone who regularly drinks 5 or more double ristretto based coffees a day, let me tell you that you soon build up a dairy intolerance when you are drinking that much coffee. So, yeah, I often switch between dairy, and soy, and / or no milk at all! Viva la difference! ACG

If you don't like Soy you must also hate coffee, they both grow on a tree and they both come from a bean, and the result is an extract of the natural product from both. So you must just love cows milk on its own.

Here's a small part of wikipedias soy info Phytoestrogen in men Because of the phytoestrogen content, some studies suggest that there is a correlation between a soybean-rich diet and a decrease in the level of testosterone in men, although these findings are controversial. [16] [17] [18] A study carried out at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast linked soy to male infertility, including damage of reproductive capability already caused during childhood. [19] The study also points out that "soy is not just consumed by vegetarians, it is contained in a lot of everyday processed foods." And no they are not both beans do a bit of wikipedia research and you will be amazed by the evil soy bean which is a legume. I think Ronnie Johns incarnation of Chopper Read last Thursday night was spot on in saying to the soy latte drinker "how about a mugachinno of harden the f#@k up"   cracked me up
  • im all for choppers theory, but he could have at least suggested something a bit harder than a mugacino!  ;D

  • my point is just that :-no one can be right or wrong.
so let me believe that people should be locked up for choosing to drink soy! Seriousness aside, I'm just gathering the paperwork to pass the legislation as we speak ::)
  • WHAT THE ,if no one is right or wrong then there neutral and on the fence and need a lot more than a mugachinno of harden the f@#k up, maybe even more than a six pack of can of kick arse. I swear this once great nation is going soft and pudgy. The last time I looked the Taliban were not in power and controling what you mixed with a shot of coffee so put what ever you want in, be it crystal meth or Vannila syrup. Don't we all have the democratic right to laugh or not to at soy drinkers for what ever reason (mine is the whole I can't believe this is not real food just processed/moulded prodded/juiced soy angle) Harden Up Australia or find a good pysciatrist

Don't put words in my mouth, I used the statement 'right or wrong' in the context of sensory experience not as a statement on its own. I swear this once great nation is going soft and pudgy. So what you are saying is to drink soy is to be soft and pudgy? Please tell me this is not what you are saying!!! And if so please give me a logical reason why other than something about an ugly meat head from the movies. The last time I looked the Taliban were not in power and controling what you mixed with a shot of coffee so put what ever you want in, be it crystal meth or Vannila syrup. So you wanna laugh at soy drinkers but its okay to put whatever you want in it (please explain) Don't we all have the democratic right to laugh or not to at soy drinkers for what ever reason (mine is the whole I can't believe this is not real food just processed/moulded prodded/juiced soy angle) Harden Up Australia or find a good pysciatrist
No probs go ahead and laugh, as for me I take as much pride in pouring a decafe soy latte as I do a double espresso Yergacheffe. If you don't like soy, can you tell me what you think of cow drinkers because it must be the same. Whats a pysciatrist?
  • Oops my computer skills suck
  • Hi all, I use SoyGold, it is amazing & doesnt have that nutty taste like some others
  • Really?  Never heard of it. I'm one of those swinging voters who sometimes can't stand the sight of soy, and other times I can't drink anything else! If I do drink soy, however, then its Bonsoy all the way, and organic milk with my coffee, if you please... Cheers, Patrick II
  • We buy Soygold in Brisbane, so I'm not sure if its made locally though. Blue carton, & it comes in skim too
